Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals will face off in a crucial IPL clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Sunday with both teams still fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. Delhi Capitals are in a far more difficult position, having managed only 10 points from 12 matches so far. Another defeat would officially end their playoff campaign.
Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, have 12 points from 11 matches and remain firmly in the race. The week-long break is expected to have helped the team recover physically and mentally ahead of an important phase of the tournament.

Delhi Capitals have often struggled to create a strong home fan culture over the years. Matches involving teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings usually see large sections of the crowd supporting stars like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni instead.
This time, however, many supporters are expected to turn up mainly to see Sooryavanshi continue his extraordinary run. The young batter has smashed 440 runs in 11 matches at a stunning strike rate of 236.55 and has already hit 40 sixes this season. His biggest challenge on Sunday could come from experienced Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc.
Starc has produced mixed performances in the IPL over the years. At times he has struggled badly, while on other occasions he has delivered match-winning spells, including his memorable performance in the 2024 IPL final that helped Kolkata Knight Riders win the title.
If Starc manages to extract early swing and seam movement, Sooryavanshi’s technique could come under serious examination. The teenager relies heavily on hand-eye coordination and aggressive strokeplay rather than traditional footwork.
Delhi Capitals have recently prepared slower pitches that have not produced many high-scoring games, but their bowling attack has lacked consistency.
Captain Axar Patel and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have struggled to dominate despite their experience, with neither bowler managing to consistently control games in the middle overs.
The pace attack has also looked vulnerable apart from Lungi Ngidi. Indian pacers T Natarajan and Mukesh Kumar have leaked runs regularly this season and could face another difficult outing against aggressive batters like Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel.
Rajasthan’s only concern has been the form of captain Riyan Parag, who has scored 207 runs from 10 matches at a strike rate of 143. Recently appointed India A captain for a List A tri-series, the Assam batter is still searching for consistency this season.
The Royals bowling attack, however, has looked far more threatening, especially with Jofra Archer leading the pace unit.
For Delhi, much will depend on KL Rahul, who has been their most reliable batter. Others in the middle order, including Nitish Rana and Sameer Rizvi, could struggle against high-quality pace and bounce.
The rivalry between the two teams has remained closely contested over the years. In 31 IPL meetings, Delhi Capitals have won 16 matches while Rajasthan Royals have won 15.
Delhi had defeated Rajasthan by seven wickets earlier this season, while last year’s meeting between the two sides had gone into a thrilling Super Over.
The pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium has not been very batting-friendly in recent matches, with Delhi losing both of their previous home games there. In fact, DC have managed only one win in six home matches this season. The surface is expected to assist spinners once again, and scores below 200 could prove competitive.
